Emergency Situations
Introduction
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Fire, accident, or weather. It required the ability to maintain participant welfare when responding to emergency situations.
Suitable for people that work in a range of roles such as sport, fitness, recreation industries, schools, coaching, working in aquatic centres such as lifeguards or operators.
Pre-course study
After you enrol there is online pre-course reading, videos to watch and a quiz. This can be done any time prior to your class. It is a pre-requisite this is completed before your class.
Online learning is 2 hours, and practical class time is 4 hours.
General Course outline
- Source and interpret relevant organisation policies and procedures
- Recognise emergency and potential emergency situations
- Identify exits and assembly points
- Remove individuals or groups from danger
- Monitor the condition and location of participants
- Provide information on developments to participants
- Report workplace emergency situations to the appropriate personnel as required.

- Emergency scenarios
- May require bending and laying on a floor mat
- Creating an evacuation and building plan
Re certification requirements
It is recommended this unit is refreshed every three years. This is a requirement for many industries. If you are in doubt, contact your professional body for advice as requirement standards may vary depending on your industry body and state.
